I used them to create these color block planters..

Well in this pic they are still in the process…

For this simple DIY you need:

  • Planters of your choice
  • duct tape
  • acrylic paints of your choice: it largely depends on what pots you are using. Clay would need something else. But i used plastic. So acrylic paints worked fine for me.

Instructions:

DSC_1112

  1. Tape the planters in pattern of your choice or just random. Like I did!

And Paint!!!!

Now i have always had difficulty with acrylic paints almost on every material. So in this case too when I used paint brush, it gave me really dreary lines all over with a total yuck effect! So i dropped brush and used cotton swabs instead. As you can see in this picture the different strokes I got while using the two.

Anyone else having this difficulty?!?!

Let me know your solutions or maybe the riight way of using acrylic paints ๐Ÿ˜€

So cotton swabs are a winner for me!!!

And this is the end result!!!! I looooooove the pop of color and the life they are bringing to these plants! And my window sill!!

I let them dry for a few days!! before peeling the tape off! Well it was more out of procrastination than any other reason. But when I did peel, they were completely dry and whenI peeled them I had to line the tape with a scale where the paint and tape were meeting. Just to separate them, otherwise it was the paint off!!

That is all the work I put into this project!!!

Have a fantastic day everyone!!!!

How to take better instagram pictures

I love instagram!!!I am totally hooked to it.. Way more than facebook!!!

I have to admit it took me a while to figure it out!

At first I was totally clueless.. taking not so oomph shots in bad lights and simply missing moments.. and than just drooling over the amazing pictures everyone else seem to capture so easily..

But like everything else.. after a while I figured it out!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Here are my pointers on taking absolutely fun pics on instagram.

Light is your friend:

LEARN TO FIND THE LIGHT!!!! this is the no one pointer i can give to anyone shooting with any phone or camera.. This is the basic secret ingredient about almost all drool worthy shots.. you think you can fix it with a filter.. but it turns out not always!! But if you take a pic in decent light! you wont might even need one!

Set up a photo booth in your house:

Find a board.. maybe white or maybe brown.. IF you need a background you can set that up as well.. but mostly a board against a window works perfectly. Or open the door to let the light in or whatever works for you.

setting up a designated place for your creativity makes it so much easier for you to share the stuff you want to share in a moments notice. And also opens up room for ideas you want to create.

Honestly even I need to work on that! At the moment i just gather things and take them wherever I find light in the house!

Take pictures from top:

I love to take pics from top. There is something so whimsical and so fun about it. Its just a magical canvas.

COLOUR!!!!

I am nuts about color!!!!! Train your eye to find color and you will be amazed what you can find. And what a fun fun thing it would be to add to your everyday to-do-list!

Make a mess:

Just thinking abt it makes me smile. One of the coolest shots i have seen are of creative messes!!! ofcourse you love them too

Find texture:

I realized I don’t work that much in this area. But I know alot of peopel who take amazing texture pics. They are pretty easy and fun and open to manipulation ๐Ÿ˜€

FOOOOOOOOOD:

Everyone loves to share and view gorgoeous food pics!!! there are no hard and fast rules abt taking food shots. If you are doing the rest of the stuff. and you find tons of good light you will take magical pics anyways.

What takes it to another level is y0ur props!

SKIES!!

You can never go wrong with a sky shot!! its just mesmerizing! Just need to find your angle or the beauty in it ๐Ÿ™‚

Go black and white: Nothing makes a stronger and an easier statement than black and white pics.So if you want to add some drama just turn it black and white.

3-24-2015 2-07-02 PM

Find the right hashtags..

that is the key to save your masterpieces from drowning into oblivion! ๐Ÿ™‚

In the end its all about what you love and what you do! your creative expression of you and your life. So just have tons of fun with it! You can also use this as a list to expand on your instagramming skills.

Feel free to add more pointers to this list. I would love to hear what you have to say about me.

And follow me on instagramย hereย and share the joy of instagramming ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a beautiful day!

How to take sharp Action photos from Nikon

WHAT YOU NEED!

1.I am assuming you have:

a good SLR. This tutorial is for Nikon SLR, D3200 specifically, coz that is what I am using. And it has given me best results and is excellent for beginners simply because it worked out well for me.

2. Preferably

A Good lens. We need a good lens for low aperture speed. i use 70-40 mm but any good lens will work of course.

3.The coolest ingredient

Lots of sunlight.

I have learnt it the hard way sunlight is the reason behind brilliant pictures. While in this case we need it for the shutter speed, but mostly sunny day OR LOTS OF NATURAL LIGHT is a must for other pics as well.

SETTINGS

1. PUT THE CAMERA IN SHUTTER PRIORITY SETTING

camera5

Turn the dial on top to S

Shutter priority mode means that we can adjust the shutter speed manually and camera takes care of the rest of the stuff. Shutter speed is how fast the camera SHUTTER CLOSES.

Shutter Priority mode means weโ€™ll be setting the shutter speed manually while the camera takes care of the rest of the settings. Shutter speed is how fast the camera records a picture. A very fast shutter speed will freeze action, just what we need. A very slow shutter speed causes blurry images (which can be a cool effect if you want to capture motion like running water inย waterfalls or cool night light like .

car light trails) but requires a tripod. Today we want to stop action, so weโ€™ll tell the camera to use a very fast shutter speed.

2. Set the shutter speed to 1/1000

camera 7 edited 2

In addition to the labeled dial, youโ€™ll see an unlabeled black dial on your camera. Use this dial change the shutter speed. Crank it left for lower and slower, right for higher and faster. The higher the number, the faster the shutter speed! Set the dial to change the shutter speed to 1/1000. It may also just say 1000. That is a very fast shutter speed. This means the photo that the camera captures will show what was happening in that one one-thousandth of a second. Thatโ€™s pretty fast!

3. Change the AF-C and High speed continous

The next two changes that you need to make can be easily done through the little ‘i’ button at the bottom end of the left side of the camera. By pressing this button all the variables you can see in black bricks on your screen like ISO can be monitored.

4. Change the AF-C

Change Af-A to AF-C. You can do this by simply pressing the little “i” button at the bottom of the camera. This is the mode which tracks the subjects movement and can predict before it makes it. Yes it sounds freaky to me too but it actually works. Now you know how intelligent you SLR actually is and how you can manipulate it. ๐Ÿ˜€

4.Set the shooting mode to continous

edited 7

In continuous shooting mode, you can press the shutter button and hold it down to take several photos in a rowย without lifting your finger. Coz in this mode the speed at which the camera takes the pictures is much faster, so continous mode makes it easier to keep up with the action and shutter speed.

5. The focus point

The focus point tells the camera where to focus.

  • Auto Select in my opinioย is best for photos with one subject (by themselves) in the frame, because we are capturing action and the subject is moving its harder to find perfect ย focus with every shot. So just let the camera do this part.

so wrap up: This is how we want our screens to look like when our kids are all geared up for action.

camera 1

  1. put the camera in Shutter Priority ( S) mode
  2. Set the shutter speed to 1/1000
  3. Change the focus mode to AF-C
  4. Change the shooting mode to Continuous
  5. Find your focus point.

Enjoy photography!!!
